LIGHT RAIL MOLDING

Light rail molding is an essential element used to conceal the underside fixtures of a top cabinet’s lighting system. Although its primary function is functional, light rail molding can also add an attractive finishing touch to the overall design of the cabinetry. By selecting a molding that matches the crown molding, a cohesive and elegant look can be achieved, enhancing the visual appeal of the entire cabinetry project.

To create light rail molding, cabinet makers can either use a separately carved piece of wood or utilize scrap pieces from the original cabinet construction. Usually, light rail moldings are installed at the end of the installation process, but they can also be added later if the owner decides to install underside lighting. The most challenging aspect of installation is cutting out the wood to allow proper attachment to the lower front edge of the top cabinet.
