SURFACE MOUNTED HINGE

A surface mounted hinge is a type of hinge that is attached to a door or frame without requiring a mortise to be cut. Instead, one leaf of the hinge is attached to the door and the other leaf to the frame. As it is not recessed into the door or frame, it is also known as a flat hinge. Surface mounted hinges are available in both exposed and concealed varieties, and some models even have self-closing mechanisms to prevent cabinet doors from slamming shut. These hinges are available in various sizes and finishes to match different doors and frames. However, using surface mounted hinges may result in a small gap between the door and the frame, which is why some cabinet makers prefer to use other types of hinges whenever possible.
