PARTICLE BOARD

Particle board, a type of manufactured wood, is made by blending granulated wood shavings and scraps with resin and then pressing and extruding them into a board form. Any wood byproduct collected at a sawmill, such as sawdust or wood shavings, can be used to make particle board. Its granulated nature distinguishes it from plywood.

Extrusion involves using high pressure to push a material through a die cast to create a shape. Particle board can be extruded into nearly any shape, which is advantageous for mimicking the construction of different types of wood, including complex curves and edges that would be difficult to prepare using actual hardwood. However, particle board is not as strong as other types of pressed woods. It can be laminated with coverings to enhance its properties, such as achieving waterproofing with a vinyl skin. Particle board is a cost-effective material but not ideal for applications where strength is a top priorit
