BASE SKIN

The base skin of a kitchen cabinet is the section between the bottom of the base cabinet and the floor, and is commonly known as the “toe kick” or “toe skin”. It is essentially a decorative trim that adds a finishing touch to the cabinet’s appearance. The base skin is typically shallower than the rest of the cabinet to provide enough space for the toe kick, which allows individuals to stand closer to the countertop while cooking or working. It also helps to keep dirt and debris from collecting under the cabinets. Base skins are available in a range of finishes and colors that match those of the cabinets. However, it can be challenging to ensure that the cabinets remain level while also extending the toe kick all the way to the floor, since base skins come in standard widths.
